Checking it off

What may or may not be news is that the NFL's free agent period started yesterday afternoon.

As there are always are, there were some surprising signings in the first hours of eligibility. But I don't feel like talking about Brock Osweiler to the Texans or the disasterous possibility of RG3 going to Denver or really any moves but one.

The signing of an offensive lineman.

Sexy right? No, not really but it's the most personally significant so I'm going to run with it.
So far the Vikings have gobbled up 3 players from other teams, while keeping several from last years conference championship team.

Two linebackers - Emmanuel Lamur & Travis Lewis

But like I said, the main prize so far was Alex Boone, Guard.

The caveat is that he has to fit in once the practices and games happen, but that goes for every new addition to every team.

Even before the NFL season ended I had the opinion that the Vikings should draft 5 offensive linemen. That's a preposterous opinion with the team only having like 7 or 8 picks but I wanted new blood and more competition to protect Teddy.

I still have the number of 5 o-line men being added as the bare minimum that should happen. Getting a fairly young veteran with playoff experience could count for 2 but since he's still only one guy I'm only checking one box off. But it's a big check mark to make on the list

Hopefully the team drafts 2 or 3 and brings in the rest as undrafted free agents.

Beyond the offensive line the empty boxes at the top of the list have Safety and Wide Receiver next to them. The frenzy is still new this year and there's a month until the draft but hopefully those boxes and any other's that Rick Spielman has on his get filled. Gotta check off those boxes to check off the one that really matters - Super Bowl.
